Through the years, we've had over 300 prints grace our site (and your closets)! One of the things that I think makes this life-cycle so special is the fact that we can relive the experience of falling in love with these prints through you!  Recently, Kory sent us a "Happy New Year" photo of her Zuris drying outside on a clothesline in the sun, and there were prints that we haven't had the pleasure of seeing in years. It took us straight back to Marché HLM in Dakar, Edwina's garden in Accra, and Cheikhouna's home in Guédiawaye, and memories with Sandra (slurping coconuts, dancing with Orchestra Baobab, eating yassa --lots of eating!) in each place. Textiles have a special way of doing that.

Shown left: How Bizarre and Wild West at Marché HLM in Dakar (and many others already packed behind them)! Whenever we see your dresses, memories like this, and all of the events of that day just rush into our minds, and we love knowing that new memories are created for you each time you wear them!

In that spirit, we'd love to create an archive page for you, so we'll be working on that this year. In the meantime, we're thrilled that we've been able to offer a restock of a few of our favorite dresses from this last year, for those of you who might have missed them!

ARCHIVE INSPO: Monika's Zuri Book!

One of the sweetest customer records of our dresses can be credited to Monika's daughter, Lilla, who has made a photo book for her of her Zuri dresses, their names, and when she got them so that she'll always remember

A still-growing work in progress, Lilla adds pages as the years go on, and created space for Monika add notes about when she wore them!
More recently, Lilla started adding photos from Monika's favorite memories while wearing that dress--we just loved that idea! Here's Monika with her cousin Jozsi in Rhode Island, wearing her Horizon dress:)

WHAT WE'RE READING // What's Not in a Name by Thu-Huong Ha
I've been thinking about names a lot lately and how simultaneously meaningless and meaningful they can be, and I stumbled across this piece that traces the history of naming conventions for various immigrant groups throughout American history, and how names exist in society "a gate between the private and public. It makes the ineffable self, well, nameable."
WHO WE'RE LISTENING TO // Daudi Kabaka

Known as the "King of Twist", Daudi Kabaka was a Ugandan born Kenyan vocalist and songwriter who played a major role in the development of the recording industry in Kenya in the 1960's. We linked to one of our favorite songs, and we hope you'll enjoy what you hear!
