スポンジを交換する準備ができたら、古いスポンジを堆肥にするか、庭に埋めます。完全に生分解性で、天然植物繊維から作られており、プラスチックや合成物質は含まれていません。スポンジをできるだけ長持ちさせるために、使用後はきれいにすすぎ、絞って乾燥させ、水が切れる乾燥した場所に置きます。調理時に大量の油を使用する場合は、スポンジをより頻繁に交換するか、付着した油を取り除くために石鹸で数回洗う必要があるかもしれません。スポンジに過酸化水素を霧吹きするか、沸騰したお湯に浸すことで、スポンジを消毒できます。スポンジを消毒して洗浄すると、スポンジの寿命を延ばすことができます。
