In order to create a batik fabric, recycled wax is melted and applied to the fabric using a stamped pattern. Edwina carves each stamped design herself in foam, which is easier to repurpose and work with than wood. Together with several women in Accra, Ghana, Edwina and her team always create designs that play on both pattern and layered color in a truly original way. Since we began working together in 2018, we've produced over 40 unique textiles together, keeping them in continuous production since we started. We're so honored to share this collaboration with Edwina and her team!

By the time Peekaboo arrived in my mailbox, I had decided I was going to send it back. I hadn’t even tried it on, but I had a number of other recently-purchased black and white Zuri’s (a drought followed by a deluge) and there were too many other good ones that were calling my name. So off I went to the shop where I decided that I should at least try it on before relinquishing it and my goodness it was elegant - a formality that I wasn’t used to in Zuri dresses. At least 3 people told me that was the one. And so it was. Unlike the attached photo, the white in this particular dress is quite a dark gray, so the dress is overall dark, but for once that is all right with me since it enhances the formality. I wore it last night with a red dress, red tights (perhaps a bit of a red overkill) and a green and red scarf and it was terrific - lots of compliments. The fabric is on the stiff and heavy side but it’s comfortable and I suspect that the “problem” (not really) will soften up with washing. I’m so happy, I’m going to wear it again tonight, this time with blue and silver. Can’t wait!

I was really looking forward to this dress because in the early photos it looked like a rich, dark navy. I was disappointed to find that it was in fact black (thanks to the colors listed in the product description, because it still looks very blue in the listing photos), but decided I would give it a try anyway, as I have no black Zuri dresses in my collection. I will probably try to wear it with dark navy and black, because there is a slight bluish tinge to the grey areas- or maybe wishful thinking on my part!
The material is typical of the batiks- medium weight with some stiffness- and it would be a five star dress if it weren’t for the little puffs of fabric on the shoulders where the sleeves are sewn on. I’m not sure what is happening that a few of the more recent dresses have this issue, but it’s not ideal. L

I love Peekabo for its versatility... black and white is a timeless, elegant colour scheme... this fabric is lovely to the touch and wears extremely well... I can't get enough of these hand printed batiks, especially one that can be dressed up with any colour of scarves, style of jewelry or shoes, or simply worn casually... it's an instant fave!

Haven’t purchased a batik in a long time and I love this black and white design that has a artsy but also a global elegant folk feel to it. I am glad I got it since it sold out in my size very quickly (same thing happened with my last purchase). I’ve added accessories from India (necklace), Tibet (earrings) and the golden triangle (belt). Very happy with this Zuri!
