Meet our production partner, SOKO Kenya! Based in Kikambala on the Kenyan coast, they are an ethical manufacturer that truly embraces a fair, kind and transparent work culture. In order to create a batik fabric, recycled wax is melted and applied to the fabric using a stamped pattern. Edwina carves each stamped design herself in foam, which is easier to repurpose and work with than wood. Together with several women in Accra, Ghana, Edwina and her team always create designs that play on both pattern and layered color in a truly original way. Since we began working together in 2018, we've produced over 40 unique textiles together, keeping them in continuous production since we started. We're so honored to share this collaboration with Edwina and her team!

I just love this, especially now when it is new and quite stiff, as I think a batik should be. (I know it will relax with washing but not, I hope, too fast.) It is so unpretentious while at the same time being clearly a work of art. I had a great experience wearing it as a museum docent for a third-grade class. Those kids never had a problem knowing where and who I was!
I am 5'2" and this is a Medium. I have some Larges that I wear either because I love them or because I want more room to swing my arms (!). The Medium looks a little more trim and tidy.

This is a beautiful if somewhat stiff dress. It’s still raining here in Scotland so I’m hoping to wear this when the sun comes out.

This dress makes you think of sunny Spring days with flowers blooming nearby and perhaps the happy ring of an ice cream truck in the background. I have worn it twice now and each time I both friends and strangers smiled and commented on it. The colors look best in natural light; they really pop outdoors. The dress is stiff at first, but I think it will soften up with washing.
