Printed batik fabric

In order to create a batik fabric, recycled wax is melted and applied to the fabric using a stamped pattern. Edwina carves each stamped design herself in foam, which is easier to repurpose and work with than wood. Together with several women in Accra, Ghana, Edwina and her team always create designs that play on both pattern and layered color in a truly original way. Since we began working together in 2018, we've produced over 40 unique textiles together, keeping them in continuous production since we started. We're so honored to share this collaboration with Edwina and her team!

    Beautiful colour

Such a beautiful shade of blue and a sweet naive pattern. A gentle dress.

Patchy color ruined this one for me

I loved the cornflower blue of this dress and ordered it as soon as it was available, with plans to wear it for Easter Day. I hung it up as soon as it arrived, and didn’t look at it again until the night before Easter- a mistake, because when I went to steam the wrinkles out for the next morning, I realized that there were large patches of a more faded blue on the body of the dress. It is very hard to see in the photos I took, but in daylight it is a pretty stark difference.

I know these fabrics are handmade and that the variations are part of the beauty, but in the past dresses I’ve received with variations have clearly been thoughtfully pieced together so that the effect seems intentional and adds to the beauty of the dress (sort of like the way the print of the center plackets used to be very clearly turned in a different direction for contrast, an effect I really miss.) unfortunately for this one it just looks like the left side of the front has faded, along with some patches on the back. This might not have been as noticeable if the fabric had more variety of colors, but with just the blue and white it is pretty visible. If I’d had the time I would have returned it and asked for another without such difference of color, but I had chosen it to match my children’s dresses, which were in a similar blue, so I wore it as planned. It’s still a beautiful dress, just not as beautiful as what I’m used to from Zuri.

    True Blue

If you are lucky enough to get Sprouted, be ready for the truest blue, not turquoise as may be seen in some of the product photos. I love, love, love it and can’t wait for the weather to warm up so I can style it out and about!

I bought this for my mom and I think she looks cute as a button in it. The fabric is soft and cool and the fit is perfect

    Spring has sprouted!

Lighter than the detailed photos, which is unusual. Lighter, too, than in this photo. Belts well with a bright belt. Looking forward to rolling up the sleeves (or yanking them off) and enjoying this Zuri in the spring and summer. The stencil pattern reminds me of Enoki (Snow Puff) mushrooms you get at the store.
